The second time, Sisyphus pre-planned his escape with his wife. He instructed her to withhold the proper rituals for his body after his death, allowing him to plead with Persephone, the wife of Hades, for a proper burial. This plan succeeded, and Sisyphus decided not to return to the Underworld until he died of old age.

When Sisyphus finally passed away, Zeus, the King of the Gods, intervened and devised a long and tedious punishment for him. The Greek King was condemned to roll a huge boulder uphill for eternity, only to have it roll back down once it reached the top.
